The first place FLYING ACES winners of seven in a row, continued
their winning ways Sunday night in SHAM-town with a 7-0 drubbing of the last
place(2-8-0) SHAMROCKS. The ACES came in strong for this Father's Day clash
with their RDS badguy black jerseys and they left with a 9-2-0 record. The Fly
boys offense was sharp and agressive. Kyle 'Turbo" Turner lead the charge
with his second hat trick of the season. Steve 'Leapin' Leprechaun' Leoszewski,
followed with a 4 point night off 2 goals and 2 assists. Kevin Brown (recalled
from Perkasie), had a goal and an assist. Josh 'O-My-Gosh' Lovering, scored his
12th goal of the season. 'Fly'n' Ryan Warn had 2 assists. Mike
'Machete' Gianetti, Eric 'K-man' Kusznier, and Mike 'The Machine' Petersen each
had an assist. And ACE goalie Nick 'The Brick' Minarik had his second assist of
the season, not to mention a shut out.
The real story Sunday night though was the ACES defense. With
Derek 'Dream' Weaver and Craig 'Tolchock' Jones out, Minarik and the two
defensive pairs Bleck/Gianetti and Kusznier/Brown shut the SHAMROCKS down all
night long. A shot on goal was a chore for the SHAM attackers. And when they
did manage one, Nick 'The Brick' made the save. First star honors went to Mike
Gianetti for his defensive effort. "It was awesome getting the patch on
Father's Day but earning the shutout was even better. I feel good about going
into the playoffs, it feels like we are running on all cylinders,"
Gianetti told NBC sportscaster Kathryn Tappen after the game.
The FLYING ACES play CBK on Wednesday in Flemington for the
final game of their regular season. An ACE win locks them in as the #1 seed in
the FAIHL Federal C playoff bracket.
