Goals
from Scott Preston, Darren Jones and Ryan Warn (Matt Donahue) gave the ACES a
3-1 lead that vanished in the third period after the MULLIGANS scored 5
unanswered. The 6-3 loss was the ACES second in a row and dropped them to
fifth place in the Federal C league. They sit one point behind POWERTIME. The
FLYING ACES are back at Aspen Ice Arena for a three game home stand that
starts tonight. But it is no easy path. The B league WHACK-A-MOLE squad that
swept the ACES out of the finals the last two seasons comes in with a 1-2-3
Iron B record and are hungry for a win. The ACE bench is extremely short.
Marcolini, Preston, Gianetti and Turner are all out. 'Juvy' Lou Johnson and
Steve W. were recalled from the Perkasie Red Barons, but Johnson could not
make the bus to New Jersey due to inclement weather. As the snow continues to
fall, your FLYING ACES are ready for battle.

FLYING ACES RUN OUT OF FUEL IN THE THIRD AND CRASH INTO MOUNT MULLIGAN
Sunday, February 15, 2015
ACE'S INCONSISTENCY CONTINUES AMONGST ASPEN CONFUSION
With rumors swirling of the last days of Aspen Ice Arena and uncertainty in the future of the AIAHL, the FLYING ACES traveled to the Gorillatorium Sunday night for the fifth game of their seventh season. Their opponent... The PRIMATES.
The
ACES recalled LW 'Juvy' Lou Johnson from the Perkasie RED BARONS. Derek Weaver
was on the 'ACE Case'. Kyle Turner and Eric Kusznier were healthy scratches.
Looking
for their first winning streak of the season, the 4th place ACES took an early
lead when 'Juvy' Lou Johnson buried a perfectly placed pass from Craig Jones.
PRIMATE, Keith Kontir, tied the game up a short time later. Then ACE hotshot,
Kevin Smith, regained the lead when he took a cross ice pass from Ryan Bleck
and deposited it into the back of the net.
Doug
Mouriday tied the game for the PRIMATES midway through the second period. Then
Kevin Smith once again grabbed the lead for his ACES off a pass from Scott
Preston.
In
the third it was all PRIMATES. Scott Saunter started it off with the PRIMATES
third game tying goal of the night. Later, with 9:00 to play, Walt Stevenson
scored to take a PRIMATE lead. Then with a minute left in the game and down 1,
the ACES pulled their goalie for the extra attacker. Chris Krukowski stole the
puck in the ACES zone and put it in the empty net for a 5-3 win.
The
FLYING ACES still own fourth place by a point. Monday night they travel to
Clove Square Garden to battle the second place (4-1-0) MULLIGAN'S.

PLENTY OF PENALTIES, POWER PLAYS AND GOALS AS ACES LIGHT UP REGULARS 6-1
There
was AIAHL Federal C action Tuesday night in Flemington. The FLYING ACES vs The
REGULARS in an early season battle for fourth place. And many local analysts
claiming the rivalry between the two teams had all but faded away were proven
wrong with a capital BAM!
ACE
defenseman, Mike Petersen, was a healthy scratch. Craig Jones was on 'The
Case'.
At
the drop of the puck the game seemed very evenly matched. Both teams getting
quality opportunities on offense and taking care of business on D. The REGULARS
were unable to take advantage of several ACE penalties, including a 5 on 3
situation and 6 minutes of Derek Weaver in the box. The FLYING ACES took
control of the puck late in the first, but the period ended a scoreless tie.
ACES'
goal leader, Kyle Turner, drew first blood with a nasty wrist shot early in the
second period. And when Scott Bleazy answered back to tie the game, the
REGULARS came alive and upped their aggressiveness. But it was short lived.
Moments later, Josh 'Oh My Gosh' Lovering, scored his first of the season. A
goal that would turn out to be the game winner. At the 7:42 mark, ACE Captain,
Darren Jones, passed the puck back to Ryan Bleck. Bleck wound up and sent a
surface to air missile that ricocheted of the post into the back of the net. It
was Bleck's first goal since November 12, 2013. The ACE bench roared as Bleck
pointed to Jones and smiled. Nick 'The Brick' Minarik had been electric all
night long, and stood tall to make a sensational breakaway save. The period
ended with a wee bit of ugliness between Craig Jones and an X teammate that was
never quite ACE material.
The
third period was all ACES. Turner added two more goals to complete his
hat-trick and Ryan Warn scored a beauty off a Kevin Smith rebound. The FLYING
ACES controlled the puck all period long. And if the REGULARS did get a few
shots off, Minarik and the rest of the defense took care of the situation. The
game got very ugly in the final minutes. But the AIAHL officials kept it
somewhat under control.
First
Star honors went to Ryan Bleck for his 'insurance' goal in the second. This was
the first time Bleck received the coveted FLYING ACE Patch. Teammate 'Donny'
Donahue reportedly drove the ACE EuroVan home, so Bleck could sit in the
passenger seat and sew his shiny new patch on his jersey.
The
ACES are back in action Sunday, February 8 at 10:30. Nose bleed seats may still
be available.

TWO GOALS FROM PETERSEN NOT ENOUGH
he FLYING ACES fell to CBK last Saturday at Aspen Ice Arena. The ACES gave up two short-handed goals and an empty netter in the 5-2 loss. 'The KIDS' played a fast game where the ACES always seemed to be chasing the puck. The FLYING ACE bench was missing some key components, like Derek Weaver, Kyle Turner and perhaps most importantly, game 2 patch recipient, Bill Marcolini. The win kept CBK in first place with a 3-0-1 record while the ACES fell to the middle of the pack with a 1-1-1 record. But fret not ACE fans. The boys are back at it tonight at Aspen Ice Arena. They will face off against the 1-1-0 REGULARS who are also looking for that second win. An ACE victory would 'leap frog' them over POWERTIME in to fourth place. The FLYING ACES have had plenty of time to get healthy and should be ready for that 10:30 puck drop.
