ACE'S INCONSISTENCY CONTINUES AMONGST ASPEN CONFUSION

With rumors swirling of the last days of Aspen Ice Arena and uncertainty in the future of the AIAHL, the FLYING ACES traveled to the Gorillatorium Sunday night for the fifth game of their seventh season. Their opponent... The PRIMATES.

The ACES recalled LW 'Juvy' Lou Johnson from the Perkasie RED BARONS. Derek Weaver was on the 'ACE Case'. Kyle Turner and Eric Kusznier were healthy scratches.

Looking for their first winning streak of the season, the 4th place ACES took an early lead when 'Juvy' Lou Johnson buried a perfectly placed pass from Craig Jones. PRIMATE, Keith Kontir, tied the game up a short time later. Then ACE hotshot, Kevin Smith, regained the lead when he took a cross ice pass from Ryan Bleck and deposited it into the back of the net.

Doug Mouriday tied the game for the PRIMATES midway through the second period. Then Kevin Smith once again grabbed the lead for his ACES off a pass from Scott Preston.

In the third it was all PRIMATES. Scott Saunter started it off with the PRIMATES third game tying goal of the night. Later, with 9:00 to play, Walt Stevenson scored to take a PRIMATE lead. Then with a minute left in the game and down 1, the ACES pulled their goalie for the extra attacker. Chris Krukowski stole the puck in the ACES zone and put it in the empty net for a 5-3 win.

The FLYING ACES still own fourth place by a point. Monday night they travel to Clove Square Garden to battle the second place (4-1-0) MULLIGAN'S.
