Mike Gianetti brought the Ace Case, Bill Marcolini was
a healthy scratch and Eric Kusznier was on IR for a lower body injury. Team
doctors say Kusznier will be a game time decision for the ACES Tuesday night
SHAMROCK contest.
On the frozen floor the FLYING ACES pounced and
then pounced some more
The game was a blurred combination of heavy fire
power, great saves, odd man breaks and terrifically tactical defense. And your
FLYING ACES were holding most of the good cards. Mike 'The Machine' Petersen
and Kyle 'Turbo' Turner (game winning goal) were the first two ACE strikes for
a quick 2-0 lead. However the MULLIGANS were able to get one past 'The Brick'
to cut that lead in half. And that score did hold up for the remainder of the
first, giving the illusion of a close game. But the second period was all ACE.
Well defensivly all ACE. The boys in Black spent half the period killing off
penalties by C. Jones, B. McCabe and K. Smith. I should also mention that for
the entire period there was little to no vacancy in either teams penalty box.
And in the end, of the 2nd that is, Steve 'Leap'n Leprechaun' Leoszewski,
blasted a one-timer into the MULLIGAN net for his first of the season and the
3-1 lead. Then came the third period. O my brothers, I tell you it was
like 3-1 for the longest time, then me, your Humble Narrator, I like viddied
the most amazing thing. Kevin 'From the Heavens' Smith, scored three goals real
horrorshow in like a very small amount of time. They call it a hat trick. And
that must have tied or broke some sort of league record for fastest three by
one. An any case, the FLYING ACES were not through. ACE Captain, Darren
'Rolling Stones' Jones, midway through the third, from the bottom of the
circle, flew toward the MULLIGAN net. The MULLS goalie came out to cut down on
scoring options. But this was not affective. Jones deked forhand, skated past
and scored backhand. "The actual play was really a combination of ACE
advice." Jones told reporters post game. "During period break 'The
Brick' told me to use lateral movement to beat this goalie. Throughout the
game, three times mind you, Petersen told me to get infront of the net. These
two pieces of advice combined with my world class dangles were enough to take
it back hand for the goal."The First Star Patch went to Steve Leoszewski for his goal and three assists. D. Jones took the Johnny Ace Cap for his inspiring play of the game. Turner had 3 assists, Petersen had 2 and Smith had 1. According to the stat sheet, Matt 'Donny' Donahue had a great body check and Derek 'Dream' Weaver was +4 on the night.
