In World War I, German pilots used 'Folker's Synchronizer' to fire their Parabellum 7.92mm machine guns through the arc of the propeller without striking the blades.
In the AIAHL's game of
the week Monday night, The FLYING ACES used the 'Shock and Awe hat-trick' to
pepper the enemy net without striking the goalie.
The hat-tricks came
from Kevin Smith(16,17,18) and Kyle Turner(13,14,15) who each had assists in
the late night assault. And that wasn't all from 'Shock and Awe'. Mike
Petersen(15) deposited a breakaway goal into the net and tallied two key
assists in the hat-trick onslaught. Another SMOKE clearing goal came from
defensemen Ryan Warn(2), who also had 2 assists. But the biggest goal of the
night came from defensemen Craig Jones. The Jones goal came early in the first
period off a 5-hole bound slapshot that found it's way to glory. Jones gave his
ACE squad a 1-0 lead and they never looked back. Nick 'The Brick' gave up 4
goals, but don't let that stat fool you. His performance in net was clutch!
With so many saves and BIG rebound saves, Minarik(against the very squad he
played Canada hockey with) was in First Star Patch contention all night long.
In the end however, the threaded shield went to Craig Jones. This was Craig's
first ever First Star Patch. When asked about his award, Jones simply said,
"Look, it's a huge honor. But right now all my focus is on the next game
and the playoffs that follow". The ACES celebrated their 7th win of the
season in style. A high quality 'Ace Case' from 'Case King', Matt 'Donny'
Donahue. Team Captain, Darren Jones, missed the game due to illness. Bill
Marcolini and Matt Stockwell were healthy scratches.
The MELICK FLYING ACES
of FLEMINGTON play their final game of the regular season on home ice Sunday
night. Their opponent... The HITMEN. Monsters of the B league. Only a couple
bleacher tickets are still available for the 9:30 battle. Fans that arrive
early will get to see the BOMBER vs REGULAR contest (many ticket packages still
available for this one).
