ACES Rest Starters as HITMEN Win Big

The Melick FLYING ACES of Flemington played their final game of the regular season last Sunday night at Aspen Ice Arena. Their opponent... The mighty HITMEN of the all but defunct Iron B league. ACE starters Mike Petersen, Kyle Turner, Bill Marcolini and Derek Weaver did not play.

On the ice the HITMEN were fast, smart and just a little bit dirty. They were too much, scoring 11 goals and dominating on offense. But the ACES battled back hard, scoring 5 goals and winning the second period. Kevin Smith kept up his scoring duties without his 'Shock and Awe' mates. He deposited two into the HITMEN net. Captain Darren Jones also scored twice. 'Juvy' Lou Johnson had the other ACE goal and an assist. Mike Gianetti and Josh Lovering both had a pair of assists. Matt Donahue and Matt Stockwell also had assists.

The lopsided battle with the HITMEN was perhaps a perfect primer for tonight's first round playoff action. The second seeded FLYING ACES should be well rested and ready to go against the seventh seeded SHAMROCKS. The puck drops at 10:30 tonight at Aspen Ice Arena.
