The FLYING ACES traveled to the Whack-a-Dome for the
second time this season. It was a battle for first place against WHACK-A-MOLE.
The full powered WHACKS came out angry looking to avenge a shutout loss to the
ACES earlier this season. After the first Whack-a Goal, FLYING ACE Mike
Petersen attacked and quickly evened the score at 1-1. The Moles whacked back
with 3 goals in the second. FLYING ACE, Kevin Smith scored late in the period
to bring his ACES within 2. The MOLES started the third with yet another goal,
then silences the ACES for the majority of the period. But with one minutes
left in the game, ACE 'Black Powder' lineman 'Juvy' Lou Johnson scored 2 goals
in under 50 seconds. Assisted by Ryan Bleck and Josh Lovering, Johnson's
garbage time goals brought the ACES within 1. But the scorekeeper was slow to
the draw after 'Juvy's' second goal, and let precious seconds run off the
clock. ACE Captain Darren Jones called for a timeout in an attempt to salvage
what little time was left. But with 10.6 seconds in the game the ACES were
unable to get the puck into the WHACK-A-MOLE's zone, and lost 5-4. Kyle Turner,
Ryan Warn and Mike Petersen also had assists in the contest.
After the game the ACES were greeted with what many
considered to be the worst 'Ace Case' in franchise history, surpassing even
Mike Gianeeti's infamous 'Ace Case Disgrace'(which Gianetti made up for in a
big way the following game. Mike G brought a cornucopia of wide variety'd, ice
cold, tasty beverages).
The FLYING ACES are back in action tonight against
SMOKE at the Aspen Ice Arena in Flemington, New Jersey. The puck drops at
10:15.
