Lovering-Turner Overdrive

The FLYING ACES Roll On Down the Highway to SHAM land for game 2 after Takin' Care of Business at home Sunday night in Flemington in front of a max capacity crowd. The pivotal, 4-3, game 1 win gives the ACES a commanding lead in the best of 3 series for the FIAHL Federal Cup.
The ACES have been here before though. In their fourth season in the Federal the 6-4-0 FLYING ACES shocked the league and made a run all the way to the finals against the very same SHAMROCKS. After taking game 1 the ACES dropped the next two for a 2-1 series loss despite a dramatic empty net comeback in the 3rd period of game 3. But this season's ACE squad is looking to finish things off Sunday night and rase the cup for the first time in franchise history.
Josh 'Oh My Gosh' Lovering and Kyle 'Turbo' Turner lead the game one charge with 2 goals each. Lovering also had an assist. Mike Petersen had 3 assists and Steve Leoszewski had 1. In net Nick Minarik was sensational. Turner took the 'First Star Patch' for his timely game winning goal and Ryan Bleck took the 'Johnny Ace Cap' for outstanding defensive play. The 'Ace Case' was properly filled for the big win by Mike Gianetti. And Bill Marcolini, a healthy scratch, is on the roster for Sunday night's game 2 action at SHAMROCKS on January 3rd of the new year. The puck drops at 8:45. Tickets are not available.

ACES Hold Off DUTCHMEN And Head To Finals

'Twas the game before Christmas, two thousand fifteen
At the league semi-finals, the ACES chasing the dream.
The DUTCHMEN came angry and ready for action
To avenge Donny’s goal and its goal chain reaction.
While their children were home in their beds and asleep
The FLYING ACES recalled the full season sweep.
And from the drop of the puck their attack it was blinding
Punching holes in the defense and the goalie behind them.
Relentless was Johnson also known as ‘Juvy’ Lou.
Leoszewski scored one goal Lovering scored two.
God gave the earth Jesus, One hell of a gift.
To the ACES, from the heavens, he gave Kevin Smith.
Who tallied a hat-trick and assisted a goal.
That’s an 8 point post season from that heavenly soul.
Marcolini and Stockwell and their grind line played tight.
Though rarely attacking they were even on the night.
But the refs calls became slanted not in a good way
So we ranted and panted and killed power plays.
Suddenly Turner, both brilliant and bold,
in short-handed fashion, scored a break away goal.
Then the DUTCHMAN roared back with conviction and vigor.
Cycling and passing and pulling the trigger.
With the lead cut to three, then to two, then to one
They grabbed the momentum, we were under the gun.
We frantically skated, Petersen playing D
Out there with Weaver and sometimes with me.
And with two minutes left the time ran so slowly.
We put out our best line and they pulled their goalie.
In dramatic fashion we won 6 to 7.
A big thanks to Josh, Steve, Kyle, and Kevin.
And how about our goalie, St. Nick Minarik?
Side to side, sixty saves.  Blocker, glove, stick and kick.
He stopped two penalty shots on the way to the win.
Let’s sign him to ten years, then sign him again.
The ACE Cap to defensemen, Mike Gianetti,                                                                                           an honor that tops anything under the tree.
Kusznier took ‘First Star’, he had two assists.
He was awarded the game patch and the ACE Christmas gift.
Then out in the lot Captain Jones gave us the nod.
So sad that he missed it, so proud of his squad.
He said "Cheers to the ACES and our 66th win.
Headed back to the finals with the SHAMROCKS again."
And what luck for the rookie Young Bubba McCabe.
His first season the finals the kids got it made.
So on this winter morning with your loved ones at home
Have a very merry Christmas and…
Hey…  Where the hell was Craig Jones?

ACES Collect A.S. Cup And Head To Conference Finals

Last night the FLYING ACES (3rd seed, 7-5-0) welcomed the BOMBERS (6th seed, 5-7-0) to the Flemington Ice Arena for the first round of the FIAHL Federal League playoffs and the 16th A.S. Cup contest (The ACES have won 8 times, the BOMBERS 7).

In a penalty free effort the FLYING ACES dismantled the BOMBERS 5-1. Kevin 'From the Heavens' Smith, who was awarded his 7th First Star Patch, lead the charge with three goals and an assist. 'Shock and Awe' line mate, Kyle Turner, had a goal and two assists. Mike Petersen had a goal and an assist. Steve Leoszewski had two assists. Nick 'The Brick' Minarik was awarded the 'Johnny Ace Cap' after his fantastic playoff performance in net. Josh Lovering brought the 'Ace Case'.

The ACES head to DUTCH-land Sunday night, December 20, for an 8:45 puck drop. Though the FLYING ACES swept the season series against the FLYING DUTCHMEN they will be short a couple key players.

ACES On Fire And Turner Off IR

Sunday night the ACES finished off their regular season on the road in MAV land. The FLYING ACES recalled Lou Johnson and Bob Mitchell from the Perkasie RED BARONS and welcomed Kyle Turner back from injured reserve. Matt Donahue and Bill Marcolini were healthy scratches along with Steve Leoszewski. Matt Stockwell brought the 'Ace Case'.

For the second time this season Nick 'The Brick' Minarik and the ACES held the defending champ MAVERICKS to a single goal. ACE attackers, Kevin 'From the Heavens' Smith, Kyle 'Turbo' Turner and Darren 'Rolling Stones' Jones, each lit the lamp and each had an assist. Josh 'Oh My Gosh' Lovering tallied two goals and an assist in the 5-1 ACE victory. Lovering took first star honors for the sixth time in his ACE career. "It was a great win to end the regular season." Said Lovering after the big contest. "It gives us good momentum going into the playoffs. The whole team played awesome. A lot of solid passing that we've been missing." Lovering then added, "Ultimately, I think we are still rolling strong off Donny's goal against the Dutchmen." Before Matt 'Donny' Donahue's goal the ACES had scored six goals in their last 5 games. A 1.2 goal a game average. Since and including 'Donny's' goal the FLYING ACES have scored 14 times in two games. Mike Petersen had two assists. Ryan Bleck and Lou Johnson each had an assist.

So the ACES await the playoffs with a 7-5-0 record (their fourth best in nine seasons). Currently sitting in third place, their seeding will be determined by the outcome of the Federal C's next week of games. Playoffs will start for the FLYING ACES on Monday, December 14th at 10:00 PM or Wednesday, December 16th at 10:30 PM. With almost two weeks off until their next game, we hope the ACES keep skating during all this down time.

ACES Erase 3 Weeks Of Disgrace

Tuesday night the FLYING ACES (5-5-0) welcomed the first place FLYING DUTCHMEN (7-3-1) to the Flemington Ice Arena. While the ACES looked to break a brutal four game Federal C losing streak the FLYING DUTCHMEN looked to keep on rolling and avenge an early season overtime loss. Kyle Turner was on IR and Mike Petersen brought the 'Ace Case'.
The second half of season 9 has been very tough on the FLYING ACES and Tuesday's game was at first much of the same. The FLYING DUTCHMEN, playing crisp hockey, expertly cycled the puck and put a commanding 4-0 lead on the penalty plagued ACES.

But in The second period the DUTCHMEN learned the only lead in hockey harder to hold than the 3 goal variety is the commanding 4 goal lead. At the drop of the puck, ACE center, Matt 'Donny' Donahue, won the face off and took the puck into the DUTCHMEN zone. As he crossed the blue line, Donahue threw a soft bouncer at the net. The puck found its way past the shocked DUTHMEN goalie and put the ACES on the board. Lucky shot? Perhaps. But Donahue's goal ignited an ACE offensive that had been dormant for quite some time. Over the next seven minutes the ACES mounted a lethal assault on the DUTHMEN, scoring five times with five different skaters. Mike Petersen, Kevin Smith, Josh Lovering, Steve Leoszewski and Darren Jones all added to Donahue's key goal. The six unanswered goals put the FLYING ACES up 6-4 at the end of the second period.

The FLYING DUTCHMEN aren't in first place just for their cool jerseys. And in the third period they showed a couple other reasons, scoring even strength and power played up after Kevin Smith took a 2-minute minor for his critique of an FIAHL official. But with the game all tied up 6-6, Steve 'Leap'n Leprechaun' Leoszewski fired in the game winner for his second of the night. Mike 'The Machine' Petersen followed that up with two of his own to complete the hat trick.

The FLYING ACES 9-6 win puts them right back in the Federal mix. With one game to go the playoffs are just around the corner. Matt 'Donny' Donahue grabbed both the First Star Patch (his fourth) and the 'Johnny Ace' Cap for his monumental unassisted game changing goal. "I listened to Smith." Said Donahue after the game. "He told me to take that face off and drive straight to the net." Smith and Leoszewski had 3 assists each.   M Gianetti, Lovering and Petersen each had 2 assists. R Bleck also had an assist. D Weaver was a +2 on the night.

FLYING ACES Tail Spin Continues

The last place SHAMROCKS took the ACES down 5-1 Thursday night for the season sweep. Kevin Smith, assisted by Steve Leoszewski, scored the lone goal. The loss leaves the FLYING ACES only 2 points ahead of the SHAMS in the Federal C basement. Derek Weaver brought the 'ACE Case'. Darren Jones, Craig Jones and Bill Marcolini were healthy scratches. Kyle Turner was on IR for an upper body injury.
After one of their best starts in team history (4-1-0) that included a thrilling OT win against the DUTCHMEN and a dominating performance against the Federal C's champion MAVERICKS, two teams the ACES had never defeated, the FLYING ACES have stalled in the sky. Since the MAVERICK win the ACES (1-4-0) have not been flying. Their Federal C losing streak was streched to four games. In those games they have been out scored 20 to 3 and were shut out twice. They lost the A.S. Cup and they were swept by CBK. In said losses the ACES were missing a total of 11 skaters.

So what's going on with our fly boys? Let's look at some season 9 stats. When missing two or more skaters the ACES are 2-4-0 and 3-1-0 when missing one or less. When missing Turner the FLYING ACES are 1-3-0 and 4-2-0 when Turbo skates. The ACES are an impressive 4-1-0 on the road but a dreadful 1-4-0 at home. In Federal League play they are 3-5-0. In Patriot league 2-0-0. For the superstitious, the ACES are 3-3-0 in Gray, 1-1-0 in Black and 1-1-0 in Teal. All in all... Perfectly average.

At 5-5-0 in this ninth season (62-56-6 all time) the good news is that the FLYING ACES have clinched a playoff spot. They have two games until then to get that engine started and to play some 'ACE' hockey. The ACES hit the road Tuesday for a late night contest with the FLYING DUTCHMEN at the Dead Dock Ice Dome.

ACES Can't Come Back!!!

The FLYING ACES continued their Fed C losing ways at home last Sunday night when they welcomed in CBK. Kyle Turner was on IR for an upper body injury. Craig Jones brought the 'Ace Case'.
The COMEBACK KIDS took an early lead that held until Kevin Smith scored his team leading 9th goal of the season to lock it up at 1. The KIDS came back with two unanswered goals for a 3-1 lead. Josh Lovering scored off a Bubba McCabe rebound late in the 3rd to bring the ACES within one. But in the end CBK held on for the 3-2 win and a sweep of the season series. "The team is battling and the pucks are starting to find the net. We are in the final push to the playoffs and believe we will be ready when it matters." ACE Captain, Darren Jones, told the media after the morning skate.
The short benched FLYING ACES travel to SHAM Land tonight for a 10:30 contest. The ACES hope to avoid another season sweep and to stay above .500. Aside from Turner the ACES will also be missing Darren Jones and Bill Marcolini. Mike Petersen is a game time decision.

ACES Get Bombed!!!

The FLYING ACES traveled to the Bomb Bay Arena Wednesday night for the 15th A.S. Cup battle with the BOMBERS. Short Kyle Turner, Derek Weaver, Bill Marcolini and ACE captain, Darren Jones, the short benched FLYING ACES looked to sweep the season series with the B-Boys. Once again Matt 'Donny' Donahue brought the 'Ace Case'.

The BOMBERS took it to the ACES early and often scoring even strength and power played up. The BOMBS handed the ACES their second shutout of the season. Poor passing, far too few shots on net and horrible puck bounces were only a few of the problems that plagued the FLYING ACES all night long. The BOMBERS 7 unanswered goal shutout performance was a harsh wake up call that spoiled the ACES return to Federal C play. Combined, the FLYING ACES have been out scored 12-0 in their last two Federal League games. The win brought the BOMBERS within one (8 to 7) on the big A.S. Cup contests.

The FLYING ACES welcome CBK to the Flemington Ice Arena Sunday, November 8 at 8:45  for some FIAHL prime time, revenge hockey. The ACES need to get some puck in net!

Smith Smothers SMOKE

The FLYING ACES returned home to the friendly confines of the Flemington Ice Arena Wednesday night for a contest with the Patriot League's 3-1-1 SMOKE. At 4-2-0 the ACES looked to keep hold of 2nd place in the FIAHL's Federal League. Craig Jones was a healthy scratch and Mike Gianetti had the 'Ace Case'.
Though the Patriot League is considered a small step down from the Federal League, the SMOKE came out swinging and landing blows. They surprised the FLYING ACES with both a power play and even strength goal for the 2-0 lead that held into the 2nd period. While the SMOKE were busy scoring the ACES were collecting penalty minutes and killing 4 of 5 power plays. The FLYING ACES finally cut the lead in half when forward, Mike 'The Machine' Petersen, ripped a wrist shot past the SMOKE net minder to make it 2-1 midway through the 2nd. Late in the period, 'Dubba Troubba' Bubba McCabe and Matt 'Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels' Stockwell, headed South on a two on one break. "I was waiting for the pass so that I could one time it home, but Bubba elected to take the shot." Recalled Stockwell. "The goaltender made the save, but left the rebound right in front of me." Matt Stockwell buried the rebound to knot it up 2-2. That score would hold to the very end of the 3rd period. With mere seconds on the clock, Kevin 'From the Heavens' Smith (sent to the ACES from the hockey gods) scored the game winner after Mike Petersen knocked the puck down as it rebounded off the goalie's pad. These late game heroics are a big part of Smith's makeup.

Matt Stockwell took the First Star Patch for his dramatic game tying goal. "...It's an honor that my teammates voted for me to receive it," said Stockwell after collecting his 2nd patch. Steve Leoszewski was awarded the 'Ace Cap' for outstanding play. Josh Lovering had two key assists. Eric Kusznier had an assist and was a +2 on the night. The FLYING ACES got their 2nd victory of the night on the ride home when they successfully cooked hotdogs in the team van.

Your FLYING ACES are back on the road Wednesday, November 4th at 10:30, when they battle the BOMBERS in the 15th A.S. Cup contest.

CBK Sends Reminder That FLYING ACES Need Their Grinders

The FLYING ACES finished up their 3 game road trip Wednesday night in unceremonial fashion. Short 'Grind Liners' Bill Marcolini and Matt Stockwell, the ACES were happy to have Kevin Smith back from his one game suspension. The ACES also recalled forward, 'Juvy' Lou Johnson, to fill out the roster. Josh Lovering brought the 'Ace Case'.

The COME BACK KIDS took it to the ACES early and often scoring short handed, even strength and power played up. The KIDS handed the ACES their first shutout since falling to the B league HITMEN in the final regulation game of the ACES 7th season. Poor passing, far too few shots on net and horrible puck bounces were only a few of the problems that plagued the FLYING ACES all night long. They played some of the sloppiest hockey they have played dating back to their inaugural season in the ol' AIAHL days. CBK's 5 unanswered goal shutout performance was a harsh wake up call that spoiled the end of a very dominant ACE road trip. "Stockwell and Marcolini were truly missed." Said defensman Ryan Bleck after the game. "Together with 'Donny' on the ice they really balance out the team. They may not put up big offensive numbers but they don't give up much either."

Josh 'Oh My Gosh' Lovering was awarded the 'Ace Cap' after the game for his Vincent V. G. hockey play. At 4-2-0 the FLYING ACES hope to recover at home Wednesday night in a Patriot league contest with the SMOKE.

ACES 4-1 and One For All

The FIAHL had a Saturday night doble bill that included the BLACKHAWKS at FREEZE followed by the Federal C game of the week. The 3-1-0 MAVERICKS welcomed in the 3-1-0 FLYING ACES for a battle for second place. The ACES recalled forward 'Juvy' Lou Johnson from Perkasie. Center Kevin Smith was serving suspension and line mate Steve Leoszewski was out. Ryan Bleck and Matt Donahue supplied the 'ACE CASE' for the first ever Euro combo. Supprting ACE fans packed the MAVERATORIUM with signs, ACE jerseys and genuine hockey excitement.

The ACES hit the ice tuned up to play. Each FLYING ACE tuned up in his own special way.

Perkasie RED BARON call up, 'Juvy' Lou Johnson, struck first with a Mike 'The Machine' Petersen assisted goal to give the ACES the 1-0 lead on a MAV team they had yet to defeat (0-1-1). However, late in the first the MAVERICKS tied it up on a shot that Nick 'The Brick' Minarik initially saved but found it's way to the net. Josh 'Oh My Gosh' Lovering grabbed the lead back for his ACES in the second when he scored his first of the night. The FLYING ACES followed that (game winning) goal with a very stubborn style of defense, shutting down every MAV attack. Mike 'The Machine' Petersen added some insurance late in the second with a goal that gave the ACES the 3-1 lead. The MAVERICKS struck back midway through the third period but the goal was waved off when league officials concluded a MAV skater interfered with FLYING ACE goalie, Nick Minarik. Josh 'Oh My Gosh' Lovering put the flower on the casket late in the third with a goal that gave the ACES the 4-1 lead. And eventually the 4-1 win. Lovering grabbed his fifth, First Star Patch, for his two key goals in the big win that put the ACES at 4-1-0. Mike 'Machete' Gianetti was awarded the Johnny Ace cap for his outstanding defensive performance. "The MAVERICKS thought that making the game a physical match was a recipe for getting a win but we beat them at their own game." Said Gianetti at an AIAHL post game presser. "Mike Tyson once said, "Everyone has a plan until they get hit in the face." It was a nice win but it's time to move on and keep our eye on the prize which is the championship." Darren Jones and Ryan Bleck both had assists and Eric Kusznier was a +2 on the night.

The FLYING ACES road trip continues Wednesday night as they face CBK for the first time this season. Puck drops at 10:30 and many seats are still available.

ACES Shock and Awe in Overtime

The FLYING ACES started their three game road trip Sunday night with a thriller against the 1st place FLYING DUTCHMEN. The ACES recalled forward 'Juvy' Lou Johnson from Perkasie and gave defenseman Craig Jones the night off. Ryan Bleck brought the 'Ace Case'.

The FLYING DUTCHMEN are a new franchise in the Federal C league. They are farm team for the Iron B and much hated HITMEN. And the undefeated DUTCHMEN, chock full of speed, skills and highlight reels, were ready for some hockey action.

Though the DUTCH bunch drew first blood, the ACES quickly tied things up when Josh 'Oh My Gosh' Lovering hit ACE captain, Darren 'Rolling Stones' Jones, with a sizzling pass that Jones put in the net. The DUTCHMEN seemed to have no shortage of offense though, taking a one goal lead two more times. But the FLYING ACES had no problem keeping up, tying the game after every DUTCH goal (thanks Kevin Smith).

Man for man the FLYING DUTCHMEN were the better team. But the ACES scrappy style of play, gritty determination and absolutely outstanding goaltending kept them at par, until Kyle 'Turbo' Turner, in the 2nd period, gave the FLYING ACES their first lead of the night at 4-3. Turner had slammed into the boards earlier while assisting Kevin 'From the Heavens' on one of his many goals.  But team doctors gave 'Turbo' a cautious green light to continue play. In the third the DUTCHMEN tied things up at 4 and seemed to have serious momentum. That is until Kevin 'From the Heavens' Smith, struck again to complete the hat trick (his 2nd in 3 games), this time redirecting a Mike Petersen blast into the net. Late in the third however, with a single minute left in the game, the FLYING DUTCHMEN tied it up again. As the period ended both squads got ready for some free hockey. 4 on 4 style. And as the audience looked on, the ACES and DUTCHMEN reloaded their guns.

Overtime started with an immediate and very questionable 2 minute penalty handed to Mike Petersen. ACE nation roared in unholy disbelief and protest. Fast forward to the face off only seconds later in the DUTCHMEN zone. The short handed ACES, only three men and a goalie on the ice, were on the attack! Kyle 'Turbo' Turner was poised at center waiting for the puck drop. He won the face off. And with puck on stick, Turner watched the DUTCHMAN net minder lift his right arm a bit to high. Kyle 'Turbo' Turner fired a stick side, mid range laser into the net for the dramatic, instant overtime winner. "We gave up the late goal and it bent us, but we did not break." Quipped Turner after the game. "Time and time again we fought back and it paid off for us. The Brick kept us in the game and I'm just glad we were able to get him the win." Turner was the obvious selection for the first star patch and the 'Ace Cap' went to Kevin Smith for hat trick nastiness.

The first place ACES get a bye week then continue on the road to face the MAVERICKS on October 17th.

SHAMS Edge ACES

The FLYING ACES returned home Tuesday night for an FIAHL, Federal C, game of the week match up with the SHAMROCKS. The ACES started their 117th game with the unveiling of the BD esigns, 'FLYING ACE Hockey Club' board art, sponsored by RDS Solutions. Matt Donahue was on the 'Ace Case'. Derek Weaver and Craig Jones were on IR and Bubba McCabe was a healthy scratch. The ACES recalled Eric Amedeo from Perkasie but he was unable to make the game.
The SHAMROCKS, skating considerably faster then there MULLIGAN sister squad, scored first. The goal came midway through the first period. And it was a shame because Nick 'The Brick' was having the game of his life in net. Several minutes after the goal Minarik stopped a beauty of a penalty shot powered by Soupie Mojo and he continued to make eye popping saves for the remainder of the contest. Early in the second Mike 'The Machine' Petersen scored the equilizer on a salty unassisted wrist shot that appeared to go five hole, from this press box. Then it seemed our FLYING ACES were plagued with penalties. And with a short bench, each SHAMROCK power play was a bit more dangerous than the last. And eventually they broke through on a power play late in the third to take a 2-1 lead. That score would hold to the end.
The ACES are back on the road tonight as they face the FLYING DUTCHMEN for only the second time. The FLYING ACES are looking for a big road win that would put them at 3-1-0. The puck drops at 7:15 at the Ghostly Dock Ice Center in Hunterdon New Jersey. Single bleacher seats are still available.

ACES Unload On The Road

The FLYING ACES headed west last night for their first out of league contest verses the newly formed Patriot league. The Patriot is comprised of 6 teams. The BUFFALOES, the MULLIGANS, POWERTIME, the PREDAMATES, the REGULARS and SMOKE. Last night the ACES battled the MULLIGANS. For those who are not in the know, the MULLIGANS are the SHAMROCKS minor league affiliate. Both teams share the Clover Arena and a whole mess of players.
Mike Gianetti brought the Ace Case, Bill Marcolini was a healthy scratch and Eric Kusznier was on IR for a lower body injury. Team doctors say Kusznier will be a game time decision for the ACES Tuesday night SHAMROCK contest.
On the frozen floor the FLYING ACES pounced and then pounced some more
The game was a blurred combination of heavy fire power, great saves, odd man breaks and terrifically tactical defense. And your FLYING ACES were holding most of the good cards. Mike 'The Machine' Petersen and Kyle 'Turbo' Turner (game winning goal) were the first two ACE strikes for a quick 2-0 lead. However the MULLIGANS were able to get one past 'The Brick' to cut that lead in half. And that score did hold up for the remainder of the first, giving the illusion of a close game. But the second period was all ACE. Well defensivly all ACE. The boys in Black spent half the period killing off penalties by C. Jones, B. McCabe and K. Smith. I should also mention that for the entire period there was little to no vacancy in either teams penalty box. And in the end, of the 2nd that is, Steve 'Leap'n Leprechaun' Leoszewski, blasted a one-timer into the MULLIGAN net for his first of the season and the 3-1 lead. Then came the third period. O my brothers, I tell you it was like 3-1 for the longest time, then me, your Humble Narrator, I like viddied the most amazing thing. Kevin 'From the Heavens' Smith, scored three goals real horrorshow in like a very small amount of time. They call it a hat trick. And that must have tied or broke some sort of league record for fastest three by one. An any case, the FLYING ACES were not through. ACE Captain, Darren 'Rolling Stones' Jones, midway through the third, from the bottom of the circle, flew toward the MULLIGAN net. The MULLS goalie came out to cut down on scoring options. But this was not affective. Jones deked forhand, skated past and scored backhand. "The actual play was really a combination of ACE advice." Jones told reporters post game. "During period break 'The Brick' told me to use lateral movement to beat this goalie. Throughout the game, three times mind you, Petersen told me to get infront of the net. These two pieces of advice combined with my world class dangles were enough to take it back hand for the goal."

The First Star Patch went to Steve Leoszewski for his goal and three assists. D. Jones took the Johnny Ace Cap for his inspiring play of the game. Turner had 3 assists, Petersen had 2 and Smith had 1. According to the stat sheet, Matt 'Donny' Donahue had a great body check and Derek 'Dream' Weaver was +4 on the night.

FLYING ACES Reunite With A.S. CUP After Blasting BOMBERS

The ACE offseason ended with a trade that sent Ryan Warn to the Stockton Ospreys for (f) Bubba McCabe and a player to be named later. And young McCabe got the opportunity to lace up Thursday night for the 14th A.S. Cup match up and season opener at the Flemington Ice Arena as the FLYING ACES welcomed the BOMBERS.
The ACES took an early lead when Darren 'Rolling Stones' Jones, who boldly predicted the win, sent a pass back to Ryan Bleck at the blue line. Bleck wound up and fired a slapper top shelf, stick side on the Bombers goalie. Moments later Josh 'Oh My Gosh' Lovering took a Mike Gianetti pass and deposited his first of the night for a 2-0 lead. The BOMBERS were quick to respond though. They started with the classic Bill Auld 'Cherry Pickers' special break away goal in the closing moments of the first period. They added another midway through the 2nd to knot it up 2-2. But Kyle 'Turbo' Turner answered back shortly there after when he grabbed a cross ice pass from Gianetti and scored a dazzingly sick goal. And that was the beginning of the Ace-alanche. Turner put in two more to complete the 'trick', Lovering scored his second of the night, and Kevin 'From the Heavens' Smith joined the fun with a goal of his own. Nick 'The Brick' Minarik, back in top form, let only one more pass, and his FLYING ACES took the A.S. Cup in a 7-3 win. "It was great to get back on the ice after an injury," said Turner who took First Star honors for his hat trick and one assist performance. "My teammates were the real stars tonight, they got me the puck into open space so that I could get some chances. All in all it was a great team win tonight," continued Turbo. Mike Petersen had 2 assists. Daren Jones added another. Craig Jones and Bubba McCabe both had assists. Craig was on the ACE CASE. And though he had no points in Thursdays contest, Steve Leoszewski, was said to have played with heart.
THE FLYING ACES hit the road Wednesday night for a lovely 10:30 puck drop with the MULLIGANS. Due to the very convenient time slot and excitement of the match up, this game is sold out.

ACES BLANK MULLIGANS AND SEND THEM HOME

As super fan Becca followed the FLYING ACES twitter feed from Estes Park, Colorado, a capacity crowd filled their newly refurbished Flemington Ice Arena back in Jersey for conference semifinals action. Bernie Brick, wearing his bad guy black FLYING ACES away sweater, stood proudly atop his section and watched the ACES complex warmup drill.  Audra Lovering looked on behind the glass of her front row perch. KACE (Katy and ACE) visited the home team bench spreading cheer and support. The cute little pup had puck in mouth ready to watch some hockey.

It was the MULLIGANS that knocked the ACES out of the playoffs in the first round last season. But the FLYING ACES owned the SHAM-MULLIGANS this season winning all three match ups and outscoring them 18-6. And that ACE superiority continued last night. From Steve 'Leap'n Leprechaun's 1st period goal to the ACE defense, tuned up and tactical.

From Kyle 'Turbo' Turner's two goals powered by 'Machete' Gianetti and Derek 'Dream' Weaver to Kevin 'From the Heavens' Smith's empty netter. And from the great home crowd cheering "Nick the Brick, Nick the Brick" as Minarik worked for a post season shutout to Nick himself, focused and fine tuned, the ACES turned a gritty MULLIGAN defensive performance into a 4-0 loss.

ACES LOCK DOWN HOME ICE THROUGHOUT AFTER TAKING CBK IN SLUGFEST FOR FIRST PLACE

It was Federal C hockey at it's best Wednesday night in Flemington as the 1st place FLYING ACES welcomed the 2nd place COME BACK KIDS for an end of season battle for the top spot and possible FIAHL finals preview.
The ACES recalled fellow RED BARON 'Juvy' Lou Johnson to skate with Perkasie partner Kevin Brown. Darren Jones, Steve Leoszewski, Bill Marcolini, and Matt Stockwell were healthy scratches and Ryan Warn was a late arrival. Eric Kusznier supplied the ACE CASE.
League commisioner Bill Auld was present with camera in hand along with supportive ACE fans from as far as North Carolina. And boy howdy did the two clubs deliver the action.
From the start of period one the ACES 'Shock and Awe' line was tuned up and ready to play. Mike 'The Machine' Petersen and Kyle 'Turbo' Turner traded goals and assists early for a 2-0 lead. The first goal from Petersen coming 27 seconds into the contest.
In the second, THE COME BACK KIDS, Evan Beisler and Stephen Burry, staying true to their name scored the next two. But shortly there after, Josh 'Oh My Gosh' Lovering on a red hot point streak deeked, dazzled, and delighted ACE Nation when he delivered the goal that gave them back the lead at 3-2. Once again however the pesky KIDS came back to tie the game off another from Stephan Burry. Then 'Shock and Awe' rose to the call. 'Turbo' Turner to 'The Machine', and Mike 'The Machine' blasted it in to regain the lead 4-3. But the KIDS weren't finished yet, Even Beisler skated in and scored his second of the night to knot it up at 4. Next Kevin 'From the Heavens' Smith skated in and left a sick drop pass for Kyle Turner, who took it to the limit and got his second of the night to put the ACES up 5-4. And you knew this was a dogfight for 1st place when CBK defensman, Joe Rega, resiliently tied it for his squad.
The game remained tied 5-5 through much of the 3rd period. The ACES could not take advantage of a 15 second 5 on 3 powerplay or the two 5 on 4 opportunities that surrounded it. But in the final minute of play, THE KIDS dumped the puck into the ACE zone for a line change. Defenseman, Ryan Bleck, chased it down. Then with 11 seconds left on the clock Bleck sent a tape to tape pass to an open Kyle Turner on the other side of the ice. Turner skated toward CBK goalie Justin Romanowski and with 6 seconds left blasted it at him. Romanowski got a big piece of the puck, but not enough to keep 'Turbo' from taking it to the limit one more time as the puck found it's way across the goal line. "It was a close high scoring game, which is a style our team can play. But if Bleck doesn't pick his head up and make that pass, we may be having a different conversation right now so he's the hero tonight in my mind," 'Turbo' told reporters in a short press conference after the game. Kyle Turner got the first star patch (his 6th) for his hat trick performance that included the game winner and two assists. Mike Petersen had an additional assist. Eric Kusznier and Kevin Brown also had assists.
The FLYING ACES now await the winner of the SHAMROCKS at PRIMATES play-in game to see which club they will face in the Federal C Leaugue, conference semi-finals.

ACES MAGICAL MYSTERY TOUR CONTINUES IN SHUTOUT FASHION

The first place FLYING ACES winners of seven in a row, continued their winning ways Sunday night in SHAM-town with a 7-0 drubbing of the last place(2-8-0) SHAMROCKS. The ACES came in strong for this Father's Day clash with their RDS badguy black jerseys and they left with a 9-2-0 record. The Fly boys offense was sharp and agressive. Kyle 'Turbo" Turner lead the charge with his second hat trick of the season. Steve 'Leapin' Leprechaun' Leoszewski, followed with a 4 point night off 2 goals and 2 assists. Kevin Brown (recalled from Perkasie), had a goal and an assist. Josh 'O-My-Gosh' Lovering, scored his 12th goal of the season.  'Fly'n' Ryan Warn had 2 assists.  Mike 'Machete' Gianetti, Eric 'K-man' Kusznier, and Mike 'The Machine' Petersen each had an assist. And ACE goalie Nick 'The Brick' Minarik had his second assist of the season, not to mention a shut out.
The real story Sunday night though was the ACES defense. With Derek 'Dream' Weaver and Craig 'Tolchock' Jones out, Minarik and the two defensive pairs Bleck/Gianetti and Kusznier/Brown shut the SHAMROCKS down all night long. A shot on goal was a chore for the SHAM attackers. And when they did manage one, Nick 'The Brick' made the save. First star honors went to Mike Gianetti for his defensive effort. "It was awesome getting the patch on Father's Day but earning the shutout was even better. I feel good about going into the playoffs, it feels like we are running on all cylinders," Gianetti told NBC sportscaster Kathryn Tappen after the game.
The FLYING ACES play CBK on Wednesday in Flemington for the final game of their regular season. An ACE win locks them in as the #1 seed in the FAIHL Federal C playoff bracket.

ACES ELECTRIC BEHIND LOVERING HAT TRICK

There was FIAHL C league action Sunday night in Flemington. The triple bill included BOMBERS vs CBK followed by FLYING ACES at REGULARS and ending with a SHAMROCK, FLYING DUTCHMAN match up. The BOMBERS started it off with a shoot out win over CBK that really set the table for the second game. If the FLYING ACES, who were on a six game winning streak and had never lost to the REGULARS, could continue both trends, they would sit atop the Federal C league in first place.
With Bill Marcolini off IR and Matt Stockwell lacing up, it would be the first time this season that Matt 'Donny' Donahue and his 'Grind' line would skate together. And with the exception of a missing Ryan Warn, who was scheduled to play, the entire ACE team was taking the ice.
The game started with a startlingly fast rebound goal that put the REGULARS up 1-0. And though the FLYING ACES weren't even thinking about a loss to the REGS, goalie Tyler Leivonin was very focused on defeating the ACES. As he danced around in rental skates, Leivonin survived wave upon wave of ACE assault. Finally the equalizer goal came on an ACE power play when Kyle Turner shot one on net and Steve 'Leapin Leprechaun' Leoszewski fired the rebound in. Shortly there after Turner found Ryan Bleck who sent a blue line blast to the REGULAR net. Leivonin made the save but once again Leoszewski buried the rebound for his 2nd of the night and a 2-1 lead. Enter Josh 'Oh My Gosh' Lovering. The ACE 'black powder' center sent an absolute missle off the crossbar and in for the 3-1 lead. Though Lovering's goal would turn out to be the game winner, Mr. 'My Gosh' was far from finished. Lovering would score 2 more in the second period to complete the hat trick and earn him his second First Star patch of the season. "Everyone on the team played great and contributed to the win." Said Lovering to reporters after the victory. "I can't take too much credit for the hat trick. I was just in the right place at the right time to receive beauty assist passes from powerhouse line mates like D. Jones." 'Oh My Gosh' continued,"I guess I had a little extra juice pumpin in me over Ryan Warn's absence after a solid teamsnap commitment. Regardless of Warn's apathetic attendance, it was a big win to put us in that coveted first place seed." In the end it was a big 7-2 win for the FLYING ACES. Their seventh in a row and their first win in Black this season. Kyle Turner also had a goal. Leoszewski also added an assist. Kevin Smith had a goal and an assist. Mike 'The Machine' Petersen and Darren Jones had 2 assists each. Mike Gianetti had an assist.
After the game the ACES gathered for the official team photo that will be used from here on out on all press and promo material, posters, the FLYING ACE movie, the FLYING ACE Blog, Twitter, Teamsnap and everything ACE, including the FLYING ACES Season 8 Bible with forward by Bernie Minarik. Oh and Matt Stockwell was in the photo.

FLYING ACES OFFENSIVE DISPLAY BACKED BY 2 PERIODS+ OF SHUT-OUT HOCKEY

The FLYING ACES are in the midst of their longest winning streak in team history. The MULLIGANS, weak in the standings but strong on the ice, would love to see that streak come to an end. In their eight seasons of AIAHL\FIAHL hockey the FLYING ACES have only defeated the MULLIGANS twice. Most recently three seasons ago when Nick 'The Brick' Minarik played one of his finest games, letting only one puck into his net for a 2-1 win. And lets not forget that it was the MULLIGANS that knocked the ACES out of the playoffs in the first round last season.

Ryan Warn and Matt Stockwell were scratches. The ACES recalled 'Juvie' Lou Johnson from Perkasie and welcomed back Bill 'Macaroni' Marcolini from IR for his first game of the season.

This one was a battle of skill and speed between two of the best goalies in the league. A battle that Nick 'The Brick' and his ACES would win. Minarik did not give up a goal until midway through the third period of play. While the FLYING ACES managed 4 in that same span. 2 came from Mike Petersen, 1 from Josh 'Oh My Gosh' Lovering and 1 from Kyle 'Turbo' Turner on a sick drop pass from Lovering. When MULLIGANS Scott Giles and Kevin Glynn did get a couple past Nick in the third, the ACES promptly responded with Turner's second goal of the night. And when MULLIGAN Eric Greenwald scored to make it 3-5, ACE penalty leader, Kevin 'From the Heavens' Smith, answered back with his 11th goal of the season to give the FLYING ACES a 6-3 lead. Minarik saved everything else that came his way and the ACES were victorious. 'Turbo' Turner had 3 assists. Two of them in the first on the Petersen goals. ACE Point leader, Mike Petersen, had 2 assists. Steve Leoszewski, Eric Kusznier and Lou Johnson each had an assist. Minarik took First Star honors for a great performance in net. "I knew I was on my game tonight, but the defense still came up big and made some huge plays at key times to help me out." Said Nick 'The Brick' post game. "'G' (Mike Gianetti) did have a huge clear in front of me in the second. (I) picked it up late and couldn't control the rebound. Then Lou had that fantastic play to hesitate with 10 seconds left in the period to get the puck out."

So the ACES are winners of 6 in a row. Will they take their winning ways to the REGULARS Sunday night? Will you be there?

FLYING ACES HAND CBK FIRST REGULATION LOSS OF THE SEASON

The FLYING ACES headed to CBK Arena last night for an FIAHL 'Game of the Week' matchup with the COME BACK KIDS. The KIDS (7-0-1), who have been absolutely owning the Federal C League, winning their last six games, looked to distance themselves from a hot ACE team that had won their last four. But the ACES had not defeated CBK since a 3-2 overtime win in the season 6 playoffs that sent FLYING ACES to the finals. Before the game Matt Donahue introduced the 'Fly Boys' to Johnny Ace #2, the second ACE door logo. Ryan Warn was a healthy scratch and Bill Marcolini was on IR.

ACE faithfuls came from as far as Montana to catch the action. And the FLYING ACES delivered. Starting with Kyle 'Turbo' Turner placing the puck on ACE goal leader, Mike Petersen's stick after drawing CBK net minder, Justin Romanowski, away. Petersen blasted the puck into the net for a 1-0 lead. Early in the second Turner and Petersen teamed up again with the help of Steve Leoszewski. The result was a 2-0 lead. Turner's second assist of the night made him ACE assist leader with 12. Then the COME BACK KIDS, living up to their name, scored twice. One from Nathon Charron and one from Joe Schlesser to knot the game up at 2-2.

The third period was a thing of beauty for both ACE faithfuls and the ACES alike. Josh 'Oh My Gosh' Lovering scored what would become the game winner on a defensemen special that went Ryan Bleck to Mike Gianetti to Lovering to the back of the net. Then Steve Leoszewski hooked up with Kevin 'From the Heavens' Smith for some 'full coverage ACE insurance' and a 4-2 lead. All the while Nick 'Dos Brick' Minarik was up to his usual tricks. Hip hopping, flip flopping, eye popping, puck stopping play in net with a classic Brick highlight reel performance.

With just over eight minutes to play in the third things got a bit ugly, as they sometimes do in Fed C hockey. The ACES combined for over 16 minutes in penalties that included a (over) hand pass from Mike Petersen that was clearly aimed at the head of a high sticking, hand smacking, cage whacking COME BACK KID. At one point there were 3 aces in the box. Not a bad hand in poker. In the end the FLYING ACES went into D mode, killing off an assortment of penalties including a 5 on 3 CBK power play. The clock on the busted and broken score board finally hit 00:00:00 and the 'Fly Boys' had themselves a win.

After the game 'Turbo' Turner told a pack of eager reporters, "It was an honor to get the patch tonight, but more importantly I'm glad we got the win". It's that attitude on and off the ice plus two key assists that earned Turner First Star honors.

So the second place ACES, three points out of first with a game in hand, headed out to the parking lot and drank from an ice cold 'ACE Case' provided by Derek Weaver.

The FLYING ACES head back home for a late one Thursday as they welcome the MULLIGANS to the Flemington Ice Arena for a 10:15 puck drop.

And on a closing note, the stat sheet indicated a liquid hat trick for 'Donny' who hit the tea, the fireball and the beer.

ACES SWEEP UP AND KEEP CUP

Sunday night at the Flemington Ice Arena the FLYING ACES completed the season sweep of the BOMBERS. The fly-boys poured it on early and often with goals from Steve Leoszewski, Kevin Smith, Mike Petersen and Josh Lovering. Four players that have been on fire for their ACES this season. But the resilient BOMBERS, winners of their last four and averaging 6.5 goals a game, tied the game twice fighting back from 2-0 and 4-2 deficits.
Midway through the third period with the game tied at four, ACE attackers, Matt 'Donnysaur' Donahue and Darren 'Rolling Stones' Jones, flew toward the BOMBERS net on an uneven break. Donny had the puck and Jones glided to his right ready for action. A lone BOMBER defender slid to the ice in an attempt to bust up the play. Donny quickly skated around the sprawled out obstacle toward the BOMBERS last line of defense... Goalie Josh Burke. Burke came out of net and squared up nicely to Donahue's attack. And that's when the Donnysaur sent a crisp tape to tape pass to a wide open Darren Jones who slammed the puck home for what would become the game winning goal. When asked about the dramatic play in a post game presser Donahue said "I found it much easier to make a hockey move when the opponent is laying down on the ice. But knowing my shots don't seam to find the back of the net, seeing captain Jones out of the corner of my eye, it was a no brainer to give that 'sling shot' the pass to finish them off." Matt Donahue's key pass earned him the FLYING ACE First Star Patch. This is Matt's third patch, and second in as many seasons.
Kyle Turner helped out with two assists. Kevin Smith, Josh Lovering, Derek Weaver and Matt Stockwell also added assists in the ACES 5-4 win. And 'Juvy' Lou Johnson (recalled from Perkasie) had an assist.
The ACES hit the road Sunday night for a prime time battle with the first place COME BACK KIDS. At 7-0-1, CBK stands alone in the Federal C. But the FLYING ACES are right there with a 5-2-0 record in a three way win tie for second place. A victory would put the ACES within 1 win for first place. The Flying Aces have been cold on the road this season (1-2-0) and hope to heat things up Sunday night.

ACES PULL THE PLUG ON POWERTIME

Sunday night the FLYING ACES welcomed POWERTIME to their new home, the Flemington Ice Arena. The ACES had never lost to POWERTIME and were extremely interested in continuing that tradition. Forward Bill Marcolini was on IR (upper body) and Eric Kusznier was a healthy scratch.

On the ice the FLYING ACES were all over POWERTIME. Attacking with wave after wave of deadly assualt tactics while the P-TIME goalie, Ryan Dumont, was more than up for the challenge. His saves in the first kept this one much closer then it could have been. ACE forward, Steve Leoszewski, broke through first when line mate, Ryan Warn, hit him with a beutiful 'no look' pass. Kevin Smith added another later in the first to give his ACES a 2-0 lead.

In the second POWERTIME attacker, Nick D'aniello, struck back with a nasty shorthanded goal to cut the lead in half. Moments later he came down the ice again on a huge breakaway opportunity that was stifled by ACE defensman, Ryan Bleck, who managed to catch D'aniello, pick his pocket and put the FLYING ACES back on the offensive.

The third period was all ACES, starting with a leathal rebound goal off the stick of Matt 'Donny' Donahue. Next Nick 'The Brick' shut down another POWERTIME breakaway attack. Kevin Smith added another goal and Mike Petersen deposited two of his own. POWERTIME did manage a second goal off the stick of Mike Lasinski, but by then the ACES had already taken off.

Ryan Warn was selected for First Star Honors for the third time in his ACE career. His 3 key assists were a huge part of the win. "We finally found our chemistry with one another, smooth passes and kept the flow alive. Looking like real hockey out there!" said Warn after the game. Josh Lovering, Mike Petersen, Kevin Smith, Steve Leoszewski and Kyle Turner had 2 assists each in the win. Darren and Craig Jones both had an assist, as did goalie, Nick Minarik.

The mid-season mark finds Mike Petersen the ACES goal leader (9), assist leader (11) and point leader(20). Ryan Bleck leads the ACES with 14 penalty minutes and Nick Minarik leads with 4 wins (in 5 games) and a 3.00% GAA.

Final notes... 1) As of now we have 9 orders for WBWII 100 Games Or The Cup ($10.00). If you want one let it be known. 2) Bleck's 100th game party has been MOVED to July 25 at 3ish. Only 1 ACE can't make it so far

PETERSEN AND TURNER TRICK PRIMATES

The FLYING ACES returned home from their three game road trip (1-2-0) Sunday night, Mothers day, to welcome the PRIMATES to the arena formerly known as Aspen Ice.

With Bill Marcolini on IR (upper body), Steve Leoszewski and Craig Jones healthy scratches and Scott Preston skating with the ACES' minor league affiliate, the Perkasie RED BARONS, the ACES found themselves short four skaters. But that was nothing compared to the PRIMATES depleted bench. Seven skaters and a goalie is all they brought to this contest... And the FLYING ACES pounced!

Lead by ACE point leader, Mike 'the Machine' Petersen and Kyle 'Turbo' Turner, the FLYING ACES lit up the PRIMATES with 12 goals in a 12-2 shelling. Petersen and Turner both had hat-tricks and 3 assists each. When asked about the offensive performance, Petersen said "I had originally wanted to score 7+ to beat the (ACES') current 6 goal record (held by Kevin Smith), but by the time we got to the second period it was obvious that the PREDATORS were running on fumes, so I think we started to see how many assists we could squeeze to pad the stats." Petersen had scored his 3 goals by the midway point of the second period. In the third period with a commanding lead, Captain Darren Jones decided to switch up the lines, sending defensemen up to attack and attackers back to D. When asked about this decision at the post game presser Jones said, "After 100 games with the same roles I think a change was needed for some players pigeon holed into the same positions. I think Weavsy and Bleck were ripe to play some wing and it made sense to send Smitty, Stockwell and a few others back to the blue line in return."

The night ended with Mike Petersen collecting his seventh First Star Patch. Turner was a close second in the running with another elite performance. And not far behind him was Matt 'I'll Punch You Back' Stockwell, who spent 6 minutes in the box for a bit of post whistle combat. Stockwell also lit the lamp in the second when he slammed a nasty rebound home.  Kevin Smith had 2 goals and an assist, Josh Lovering and Ryan Warn had a goal and an assist each, Ryan Bleck had a goal, Eric 'K-Man' Kusznier had 3 assists and Mike Gianetti had an assist. Oh and Nick 'The Brick' held the PREDS at 2 for his 3rd win of the season. The FLYING ACES are 48-48-5 lifetime.

Final notes... 1) As of now we have 6 orders for WBWII 100 Games Or The Cup ($10.00). If you want one let it be known. 2) Bleck's 100th game party will be on Saturday, June 27 at 3ish. Only 1 ACE can't make it so far. 3) The ACE facts are running dangerously low. If you have a GOOD one send it in. 4) If you are one of the guys lending equipment to our new prospect, please bring it to Sundays game.
And finally... This morning at approximately 10:07 A.M. Eastern standard time, in Clifton NJ, the FLYING ACES and THERMCO came to terms on a two season contract extension to start immediately.

FLYING ACES PLAY 100th AND GET TO .500

Ace Captain Darren Jones squares off in ceremonial puck drop with Shamrock Captain Jarrett Quick.

It was a whose who of Federal C hockey Monday night as the SHAMROCKS welcomed in the FLYING ACES for the ACES 100th game. From  super fan Bernie Brick to league commissioner Bill Auld to KACE (the power tandem of lovely handler Katy and team mascot ACE), the stars were shining brightly.

Aside from Bill Marcolini, still on IR (upper body), the entire ACES roster laced up for the monumental contest.

Pregame festivities saw Nick 'The Brick' presented with his newly designed goalie mask. Johnny ACE, WWI biplanes and the Minarik attack dogs were the images depicted on the sexy new cage.

By game time it was easy to see why the AIAHL put this game in the Monday night prime time slot. Once the team captains smiled and posed for the ceremonial puck drop, it was all or nothing hockey.

The SHAMROCKS started it off with a goal that was quickly answered by ACE super star Kevin Smith. But the SHAMS roared back with two more for a 3-1 lead. In what would become a dicey second period ACE point leader, Mike Petersen, lit the lamp to bring the FLYING ACES within one. And then Kevin Smith struck again with a breakaway goal to knot the game up at 3. With four minutes left in the second period Minarik dove out of net to cover up a dangerous rebound.  After the play was whistled dead, a SHAMROCK attacker took a couple whacks at Minarik's glove to try and free the puck.  ACE defenseman Ryan Bleck, reacted and threw the kelly clad culprit to the ice. Then SHAM forward, Mike Lombardi, retaliated and pushed Bleck. Bleck pushed back with a vengeance. The AIAHL refs quickly intervened. Bleck and Lombardi were sent to the box for a total of 24 minutes of penalties between the two. Neither player would be allowed back on the ice until 7:48 in the

third period. But it was late in the 2nd in a 4 on 4 situation resulting from the nastiness around the ACE net when Matt Stockwell banked the puck to FLYING ACE captain, Darren 'Rolling Stones' Jones, giving him a clean breakaway opportunity. As Bleck pounded on the glass in the penalty box and the ACE bench erupted, Jones skated down untested and threw a knuckleballer passed the SHAMROCK goalie, to give the FLYING ACES a 4-3 lead. At that point Nick the Brick knew what to do. Put up the wall. And he did.  The ACES held onto that lead and never looked back. Ryan Warn added an empty netter in the closing seconds of the game to give the ACES the 5-3 win.  All 5 FLYING ACE goals came from original season 1 members, which seemed fitting on this joyous occasion. Petersen, Stockwell and Leoszewski had 2 assists each, Donahue and Weaver both had 1. The win jumped the ACES(2-2-0) to fourth place in the Federal C league and put their lifetime record at 47-48-5. Once again Kevin Smith was screwed out of a patch as first star honors went to Daren Jones for his game winning goal. It was the second patch of his ACE career.

The FLYING ACE front office is now accepting orders for copies of WBWII 100 GAMES OR THE CUP. The ACE documentary is $10.00 a copy and will come with the new RANDY MORNING single The FLYING ACES BATTLE ANTHEM. So get your orders in. Copies should arrive in time for the FLYING ACES 100 GAMES party at Ryan Bleck's house on Saturday, June 27.

MAVERICKS TOP ACES AS ROAD WOES CONTINUE

The FLYING ACES dropped their second game in as many of this three game road trip Wednesday night. The two consecutive losses pushed the ACES into the Federal C basement with a 1-2-0 record.

Bill Marcolini was still on IR with an upper body injury. Daren Jones and Kyle Turner were healthy scratches.

The MAVERICKS were a good match up for the ACES. They came with experience and precision passing while the FLYING ACES boasted speed and Minarik back in net.

Both goalies held down their fort until late in the first when the MAVS drew first blood and took a 1-0 lead. The FLYING ACES tied it up early in the second on a Mike Petersen goal assisted by Ryan Bleck. The MAVERICKS regained the lead scoring two unanswered. But in the third, Josh Lovering, assisted by Mike Petersen, broke through the MAVS defense and scored a beauty to bring the ACES within one. But in the end, the MAVERICKS held on for a 3-2 win.

The FLYING ACES will try to pull out of this tailspin tonight as they face of against the SHAMROCKS for their 100th game. The word on the street is the ACES will be arriving in style… Dressed to kill.

ACES FALL ON THE ROAD

The FLYING ACES were introduced to one of the new Federal C franchises Sunday night in Flemington, The FLYING DUTCHMEN.

The ACES designated forward, Scott 'Jesus H' Preston to the Perkasie RED BARONS and recalled goalie, Doug Leonard. Nick Minarik was a healthy scratch.

Leonard came in looking for his first win with the ACES. But he did not find it. The FLYING DUTCHMEN scored 6 goals including an empty netter and held the lead the entire game. After opening the season with a penalty free game, the FLYING ACES spent 8 minutes in the penalty box (over half a period). Bleck, Kutsznier, Petersen and Smith were the culprits. ACE point leader, Kyle Turner, scored two goals in the loss. Kevin Smith had a goal and an assist. Mike Petersen had 2 assists.
The FLYING ACES look to rebound tonight against the first place, undefeated MAVERICKS. Another new Federal C team.

ACES START SEASON 8 WITH 9

The FLYING ACES opened their eighth season with a dog fight for the AS Cup Monday night at the arena formerly known as Aspen Ice. The ACES looked to reclaim the 'Cup' from the BOMBERS, who defeated them in their last four contests.
Forward, Bill Marcolini, started the season on IR with an upper body injury and defenseman, Ryan Bleck, was a game time decision with a lower body injury. Craig Jones, Scott Preston and Ryan Warn were healthy scratches.
The ACES came for the AS Cup with a powerful 9 goal offensive display that brought their franchise record back to .500 (46-46-5). The BOMBERS did light the lamp 5 times in the battle.
Josh Lovering took first star honors with his 3 goal performance. Kyle Turner had 2 goals and 3 assists. Mike Petersen had 2 goals and an assist. Steve Leoszewski had a goal and 2 assists. Kevin Smith had a goal and an assist. Darren Jones and Mike Gianetti had 3 assists each. Ryan Bleck, Eric Kusznier and Derek Weaver all had assists.
The ACE win puts the AS Cup tally at FLYING ACES-6 wins and BOMBERS-5.
The ACES head out for a two game road trip that starts Sunday night with a brand new Federal C team. The FLYING DUTCHMEN.

BOMBERS HOLD ONTO CUP, DROP ACES

The FLYING ACES were home Sunday night for an AIAHL, Federal C, A.S. Cup Match up with the BOMBERS.  Captain, Darren Jones, and Kyle Turner were healthy scratches.  Bill Marcolini was out with an upper body injury, and Craig Jones was a game time no show.  Johnson, Brown, and Leoszewski were unavailable for call up from Perkasie.  Healthy scratch Darren Jones loaded the ‘Ace Case’ and had it at EuroVan pick up point Bravo to avoid a possible ‘Ace Case’ Disgrace II.

At Aspen Ice the BOMBERS came strong with their usual band of high powered A.S. Cup ‘Call Ups’.  In the second with a 2-1 lead, they took control of the game scoring 4 unanswered.  In the third, down 6-1, the FLYING ACES, in their new black jerseys, battled back, scoring 3 in a row.  But at 6-4, all hope was lost when the BOMBERS dropped another one on the ACES that left a crater the boys just couldn’t climb out of.  Kevin Smith lead the ACES with 2 goals.  Preston and Lovering also scored.  Ryan Warn had 2 assists.  Gianetti, Petersen and Weaver each had 1.
The ACES are back in action at home tonight for a 10:15 puck drop against the SHAMROCKS.

FLYING ACES BACK TO .500 AS SHAMROCKS DON'T SHOW. THEY LITERALY DID NOT COME TO THE GAME

The FLYING ACES were juiced to play an exciting game against the rival SHAMROCKS in prime-time at Aspen Ice Arena. It was easily the ACES largest crowd of the season. Even the FLYING ACE EuroVan was filled to capacity with players and fans alike. One problem... The SHAMROCKS didn't show. Do to SHAMROCK scheduling error, there was no game to be played. AIAHL Federal C league Commissioner, Bill Auld, said the game counted as an official win for the FLYING ACES, who came ready to play. The forfeit win put the ACES back to .500 and jumped them out of the Federal C basement and into 4th place. And as we all know, with each ACE win, a 'First Star Patch' is handed out. And this one very deservedly went to first time recipient, Mike Gianetti who, against a strong recommendation from the team trainer, suited up to play despite a serious lower body injury.

Since 'Donnie' Donahue brought an awesome ACE CASE and the majority of the team was there, including Kevin Brown and Steve Leoszewski (up from Perkasie). And the ACES were dawning the new RDS Solution sponsored 'bad guy' Black jerseys. And the crowed needed to be entertained, the ACES decided to take a team photo and play the first ever inner-squad game. It was Team Marcolini vs. Team Donahue. And what a fantastic battle it was. Team Donahue ended up winning 6-3, but both sides played like it was a real game.

The ACES are back at it Sunday, March 15 for an AS Cup battle against those pesky BOMBERS.

ACES RETURN HOME AND SMOTHER THE SMOKE AFTER GETTING WHACKED ON THE ROAD

Between bye weeks and bad weather the FLYING ACES have been out of action for 19 days. But Saturday night they headed to the WHACK-A-DOME for an out of league match up with the B league MOLES. The FLYING ACES called up Kevin Brown and Steve Leoszewski from the Perkasie RED BARONS. 'Donny' Donahue, Eric Kusznier and Kyle Turner were healthy scratches. Josh Lovering had 'the case'. At the drop of the puck, the ACES out played the WHACK-A-MOLES but couldn't get the biscuit in the basket. After a scoreless first period, the MOLES put 3 on the board. But the FLYING ACES rallied back in the third with goals from both Kevin Brown (Smith) and Steve Leoszewski (Petersen, Stockwell). Down 3-2 the ACES had all the momentum untill an ill-fated pass in the ACE defensive zone was picked off by a WHACK and quickly put in the net. At 4-2 with under 5 minutes to play, the game was all but lost. Mike Gianetti recieved an undisclosed lower body injury, but played the rest of the game.

Sunday night the ACES headed back home to Aspen Ice Arena for their second game in as many days. Their opponent, the SMOKE. Bill Marcolini was a healthy scratch. Mike Gianetti on IR. Matt Stockwell had 'the case'. Kevin Brown, still up from Perkasie, will skate with the team through Tuesday.

The game started with a quick goal from the SMOKE when they took advantage of an ACES defensive miss que. But the FLYING ACES, eager to stay out of the AIAHL basement, roared back behind the lethal power of the 'Shock and Warn' line (10 points) and some fabulous net minding from Nick Minarik. The ACES posted 6 unanswered goals in the Sunday night victory. Two of them and an assist came from the first star patch recipient, Kevin Smith. This was Smith's fifth time receiving the patch in his ACE career. Kyle Turner had a goal and 3 assists. Ryan Warn had a goal and 2 assists. Derek Weaver and Mike Petersen both had goals. Darren Jones, Kevin Brown, Craig Jones, Eric Kusznier, Nick Minarik and Scott Preston had assists. The Ace win put their career record at 43-42-5. And 3-4-1 on the season. The boys are back at it Tuesday night when they welcome the Shamrocks to Aspen Ice Arena for a prime time battle. A win gets the ACES back to .500.

FLYING ACES RUN OUT OF FUEL IN THE THIRD AND CRASH INTO MOUNT MULLIGAN

Goals from Scott Preston, Darren Jones and Ryan Warn (Matt Donahue) gave the ACES a 3-1 lead that vanished in the third period after the MULLIGANS scored 5 unanswered. The 6-3 loss was the ACES second in a row and dropped them to fifth place in the Federal C league. They sit one point behind POWERTIME. The FLYING ACES are back at Aspen Ice Arena for a three game home stand that starts tonight. But it is no easy path. The B league WHACK-A-MOLE squad that swept the ACES out of the finals the last two seasons comes in with a 1-2-3 Iron B record and are hungry for a win. The ACE bench is extremely short. Marcolini, Preston, Gianetti and Turner are all out. 'Juvy' Lou Johnson and Steve W. were recalled from the Perkasie Red Barons, but Johnson could not make the bus to New Jersey due to inclement weather. As the snow continues to fall, your FLYING ACES are ready for battle.

ACE'S INCONSISTENCY CONTINUES AMONGST ASPEN CONFUSION

With rumors swirling of the last days of Aspen Ice Arena and uncertainty in the future of the AIAHL, the FLYING ACES traveled to the Gorillatorium Sunday night for the fifth game of their seventh season. Their opponent... The PRIMATES.

The ACES recalled LW 'Juvy' Lou Johnson from the Perkasie RED BARONS. Derek Weaver was on the 'ACE Case'. Kyle Turner and Eric Kusznier were healthy scratches.

Looking for their first winning streak of the season, the 4th place ACES took an early lead when 'Juvy' Lou Johnson buried a perfectly placed pass from Craig Jones. PRIMATE, Keith Kontir, tied the game up a short time later. Then ACE hotshot, Kevin Smith, regained the lead when he took a cross ice pass from Ryan Bleck and deposited it into the back of the net.

Doug Mouriday tied the game for the PRIMATES midway through the second period. Then Kevin Smith once again grabbed the lead for his ACES off a pass from Scott Preston.

In the third it was all PRIMATES. Scott Saunter started it off with the PRIMATES third game tying goal of the night. Later, with 9:00 to play, Walt Stevenson scored to take a PRIMATE lead. Then with a minute left in the game and down 1, the ACES pulled their goalie for the extra attacker. Chris Krukowski stole the puck in the ACES zone and put it in the empty net for a 5-3 win.

The FLYING ACES still own fourth place by a point. Monday night they travel to Clove Square Garden to battle the second place (4-1-0) MULLIGAN'S.
